New Roadmap Calls for Transforming Youth Mental Health by 2035
A new report, Future Minds: A roadmap to transform children and young people’s mental health by 2035, has just been published by the Centre for Mental Health and partner organisations. It sets out a clear, evidence-informed plan for improving mental health support for young people in the UK — a topic that strongly connects with the mission of Youth-GEMs!
The roadmap highlights how early intervention, community-based support, and digital innovation can help close the gap between rising mental health needs and limited services. It calls for stronger support in local communities, improved specialist care, better crisis services, and smarter use of digital tools — while keeping young people’s voices at the centre of change.
We especially welcome the report’s focus on embedding mental health support in early years and youth settings, expanding access through schools and communities, and making sure digital solutions increase support without replacing the human connection that young people need. By prioritising prevention and early help, the roadmap aims to reduce pressure on services and improve long-term outcomes.
For us in Youth-GEMs, Future Minds is an encouraging reminder that real change requires joined-up action across health, education, research, and policy. It also reflects the same values we are working toward through our project — combining science, innovation, and co-creation to build better futures for young people.
