Project Overview and Work Package Updates
An overview of the project’s progress was shared by Simona Karbouniaris.
Work Package 1 continues to coordinate the project and has submitted its progress report. Work Package 2 has updated the communication strategy and completed the first stage of the narrative study in Spain, Croatia, and Serbia. Work Package 3 is advancing data harmonization and large-scale data integration. Work Package 4 focuses on the genomics of the human brain and its interaction with the environment, while Work Package 5 investigates psychological, developmental, biological, and genetic mechanisms underlying vulnerability and resilience. Work Package 6 works on data integration and predictive modelling to inform personalized care and app development. Work Package 7 continues its multinational clinical study. Although recruitment of a high number of help-seeking participants remains challenging, progress is ongoing.
GEMMY App: Testing Phase
A central highlight of the session was the presentation of the GEMMY app. The app is designed as a personalized tool to support self-awareness and emotional wellbeing among young people aged 14–24. Features include emotion tracking using an emotions wheel, goal setting, grounding exercises, educational content, positive affirmations, and personalized category selection. Importantly, all data is stored locally on the user’s phone and is not collected on external servers. The app has been co-created with input from young experts throughout the project.
Young experts were invited to test the app over a two-week period, using it at least three times per week. Feedback will focus on five areas: usefulness for self-awareness, suitability for young people, support for stress management, inclusive language, and customization options.
Translation, Sustainability, and Future Development
The discussion also explored translation and long-term sustainability. While the app is currently available in English only, interest was expressed in expanding accessibility to other languages. Future development will depend on available resources and project priorities. Discussions are ongoing within the consortium regarding exploitation and ownership after the project concludes. The session concluded with action points for researchers and young experts, including the structured testing phase of the app and continued conversations about sustainability and future development.
