The Gemmy app, developed together with young people from across Europe through the Youth-GEMs project, is now available to download for free! Designed as a practical tool for everyday wellbeing, Gemmy gives young people a moment to check in with themselves, understand how they are feeling and explore simple strategies that may help them cope.
Throughout the project, Young Experts from the UK, Ireland, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy and Albania have contributed their perspectives and experiences to help ensure that the project’s research and tools respond to what young people actually need.
One of the results of this collaboration is Gemmy.
Rather than telling users how they should feel, Gemmy provides a space to pause and explore what might help in the moment. Users can identify and label their emotions, set small and manageable goals, and try different activities designed to support their wellbeing.
These include grounding and breathing exercises, sensory and calming activities, as well as positive affirmations and opportunities for self-reflection. By trying different approaches, young people can learn more about themselves and discover strategies that work for them.
Importantly, young people were involved in developing Gemmy, helping to shape a tool intended for young people with their perspectives in mind. This reflects a wider principle of Youth-GEMs: young people should have a meaningful role in research and in the development of resources that relate to their mental health and everyday lives.
